So this weekend our Church, Hope Hill Church did something really cool. Yesterday was our 4th anniversary as a church and traditionally on our anniversary we introduce a service project that will bless some organization. Year #1 we sponsored building a fresh water well in Africa so a village could have clean drinking water. Year #2 with the help of International Justice Mission IJM we rescued a child that was sold into slavery. Year #3 we sponsored two church plants in oppressed parts of the world in Cuba & Pakistan.

So what did Hope Hill Church do this year? Well after the collection plate was passed around the ushers, passed the plate around again. In the basket there were envelopes, one for every family in the church. Every family was told to take an envelope and open it. Inside the envelope there was money ranging from $20 – $100 with a note that told us to take this money, pray about it, and bless someone or something in our community.

Well before opening the envelope Lisa and I agreed that we would match what ever was inside and donate it to Meals with a Mission. This is a ministry near and dear to our heart. Three selfless women Christina, Linda, and Krista run this program and we know at times take money out of their own pockets to make it work. Meals with a Mission supplies food to about 50 kids at Belmont Elementary School in Woodbridge,VA. It just happens to be the same school I went to 40 years ago when I was a kid. Today Belmont is a Title 1 School and most of the kids get free meals during school. This is likely the only hot meal they will enjoy during the day. Meals with a Mission provides a bag lunch to go home with the kids over the weekend. Nutritious food and snacks are purchased, and packed each week so these kids will have something to eat over the weekend!!!

Well this is where you come in. Instead of just liking this post we challenge you to match what was in the envelope. Post and Share this with your friends. Please post a comment telling us that you are willing to match the money and we will send you a private message revealing what was in the envelope and how to help. Share this with your friends and help us multiply this blessing. In three day we will reveal how much money was raised. We hope to hear from you soon!!!

Update from Feb 19

There are a lot of dark things going on in our world in the name of religion. At times it can be just too much. The media loves to tell you about the evil that exist and continuously tries to outdo themselves with the next big story. We are hit with this from every direction. I think the most effective way to fight hatred is through love and compassion.

What we love about Hope Hill Church, is how our church community is moved to action. Jesus never promoted hate, never denied anyone an opportunity, never turned anyone away, but only showed love for the world! That sounds like a pretty good way to live your life and is exactly what the “Love Does” campaign tries to promote.

We are so overwhelmed by the generosity you have demonstrated over the last three days!!! The original amount in the Love Does envelope was $90. Multiply 90 X 25 = $2250. This is just incredible, and will help so many kids at Belmont Elementary School. Thank you for Liking, Sharing, and Contributing to this great cause. Thank you for being the light of the world.
